Queen Elizabeth I, Queen of England 1533 - 1603
Elizabeth I reigned from 17th November 1558 until 26th March 1603. The last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor, she was Queen for the majority of Shakespeareís life. Many productions were performed for Elizabeth by Shakespeare's acting troupe 'The Queen's Men'.
Elizabeth Cooke, Lady Russell 1528–1609
Self-styled 'Dowager Countess' and influential member of Elizabeth I's court, Lady Russell was a formiddable woman. She was responsible for raising a petition against the building of Shakespeare's Blackfriars Theatre close to her London home.

Emilia Lanier 1569 - 1645 (Aemilia or Amelia Lanyer) Emilia Lanier, (née Aemilia Bassano) was the Daughter of a Venetian-born musician at the court of Queen Elizabeth I. Emilia was the first woman to assert herself as a professional poet. She has often been posited as the 'Dark Lady' of Shakespeare's sonnets.
Mary Sidney, Lady Herbert 1561 - 1621
A poet and literary patron, Mary Sidney was listed alongside her brother Philip Sidney, William Shakespeare and Edmund Spenser among the noticeable authors of the period. She established a salon-style literary group at Wilton House, 'The Wilton Circle' which included both Edmund Spenser & Ben Jonson.
